We believe leadership by and for people with disability should be transformational. We acknowledge the importance and the power of Peer Leadership in making change happen by people with disability, for people with disability.
We believe it is important to empower people with the skills they need to act as active citizens in their own lives and communities, and to support others to become leaders as well.
Leadership development
QDN has a strong and established group of peer leaders with diverse disability and we provide opportunities for people to develop their leadership skills and mentoring.
The leaders have been working as facilitators, and also as mentors and supports for others. They help others in their leadership journey.
This is another powerful way we live our motto – ‘Nothing about us without us’.
Our Own Voice - QDN's Leadership Principles and Framework
Despite current ads and slogans, the world doesn’t change one person at a time. It changes as networks of relationships form among people who discover they share a common cause and vision of what’s possible. This is good news for those of us intent on changing the world and creating a positive future. Rather than worry about critical mass, our work is to foster critical connections. We don’t need to convince large numbers of people to change; instead, we need to connect with kindred spirits. Through these relationships, we will develop the new knowledge, practices, courage, and commitment that lead to broad-based change.
