e-Blast: Restrictions lifted for Queensland aged care facilities
From 10 August, Queensland’s Chief Health Officer has lifted restrictions for aged care facilities. This is great news as it means that families and community services are again able to go into aged care facilities.
Additional protections that were put in place, such as increased personal protective equipment and requesting staff to work as much as possible at one particular site, will remain.
QDN expects the lifting of these restrictions will have a ‘flow-on’ effect to Queensland disability providers where some providers have recently applied similar restrictions around support and visiting. This will make a positive difference for people with disability, their families and other informal supports, who have reported to QDN the negative impact these actions have had which can now be lifted.
It is important that any future restrictions are time limited and regularly reviewed, and that government and community organisations continue to work collaboratively with people with disability and their families around solutions to any unintended impacts.
Our borders remain closed to Victoria, New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. You can read QDN’s information for members on the border restrictions here.
