Plan to Introduce Independent Assessments “Will not Proceed”
Thanks to everyone’s hard work and lobbying, the Minister for the NDIS Senator, the Honourable Linda Reynolds, announced last Friday 9 July 2021 that the plan to introduce Independent Assessments will “not proceed”. Her press release after last Friday’s Ministers meeting can be found here.
The Disability Reform Minister’s meeting have released the communique from their meeting on 9 July 2021. You can read the summary of the meeting here.
Queensland Minister for Disability Services the Honourable Craig Crawford MP said he received many emails from Queenslanders with disability saying that they didn’t want Independent Assessments to go forward. It was great that QDN members were able to be part of the NDIS Reforms online forum on 19 May 2021 that we co-hosted with 6 other organisations. The Forum Report gave the Minister important information and feedback from Queenslanders with disability, their families and providers to take forward for his meeting at the Disability Reform Council meeting last Friday.
This is a major turnaround, and it is now important to watch the next steps of the reforms and we look forward to co-designing solutions that will deliver for Queenslanders with disability and QDN members.
