e-Blast: Local Government Election – voting open now and phone voting available
As of 26 March, the Local Government Elections are still on this Saturday (28 March). The Electoral Commission Queensland (ECQ) has put in place a range of measures to keep people safe from COVID-19.
Remember – voting is compulsory if you are a registered voter.
Telephone voting is available for certain eligible voters, including anyone who has been told by a doctor or government to remain in isolation during the election period because of COVID-19. Call 1300 912 782 to check for eligibility for telephone voting.
Early voting is open from Monday 16 March until Friday 27 March. Voters are encouraged to vote during the early voting period at a time convenient to them, where possible outside of peak periods. Voters should note that there are usually more people voting at lunch time or the end of the day. Early voting centres will be open from 9am-6pm this coming week and between 9am and 9pm Wednesday and Thursday.

No one will be allowed to hand out ‘how to vote’ cards during pre-polling or on election day. Voters who want this information will be able to access it inside where you vote. If this information is not on display, please ask an ECQ staff member to provide you with the ‘how to vote’ cards for the candidates. ECQ will be managing queues and people to ensure that they comply with current Queensland Health guidelines for under 100 people inside an indoor space.
Call the ECQ on 1300 881 665 before election day if you are unable to vote due to medical reasons.
