JASON DRISCOLL

Jason Driscoll

Jason Driscoll proud Brain Injury warrior. 2017 my life changed significantly, a car accident where, I sustained a broken back and neck, 7mths at PA hospital, I walked out as a Brian injury survivor.

I’ve gone from playing rugby league for the Australian Defence Force, to now doing ballet Brain Injury. Over 30 years of career changes; from Horse Driver, Croupier, Landscaper, Sports Administrator, Operations Manager, Community Development Officer, Army Engineer & Logistics Officer, Grill Cook. I’ve successfully worked at high level in all roles, not through natural talent, but hard work; I live by the mantra “where there’s a will there’s a way, if not, I’ll create one”. I’m remarkably blessed to be considered high functioning survivor, where after three attempts I can’tget NDIS. This mantra is more relevant now, living with a disability. My speech needs improvement, so in groups it can be difficult for me to interact effectively with people. This hurts and makes me determined to stand up for those who don’t have a voice. I’ve always had a mindset to stand up for the underdog, and for those who can’t speak up themselves. I’ve been given a second chance; it is my duty to use this; to help others. I met participant on the first course I was a STEPS leader, Cath had a stroke, can’t communicate without an iPad, I often catch up with her for coffee, I know it’s not a lot, but it may make her feel like someone cares. When I did STEPS course as a participant it changed my whole world, as I thought I was the only one in the world in my situation. An advocate for the program, I’ve emailed links to service providers for the benefits of their clients.
