The Ready to go project delivered information and learning opportunities to over 7,000 Queenslanders with intellectual or learning disability to support them to get ready for the NDIS. The project went from July 2014 to June 2018.
We also offered staff in organisations training and development workshops with a focus on learning about the Ready to go tools and how to support a participant in their pre-planning and planning activities.
Like all QDN projects, peer leaders are at the core. We trained team peer facilitators (NDIS Ambassadors) who were people with disability, including intellectual disability. They had roles as educators, mentors and ambassadors, leading people through this transformational change.
The Pathway to the NDIS
The pathway to the NDIS was used in our workshops to help people learn about the steps to having a plan and choosing and purchasing supports. Each step of the pathway was explained in detail, with the road leading to making a choice about the type of supports needed.
The NDIS pathway is a flexible process, where people with disability have choice and control throughout each stage.
