QDN wins disaster resilience award.

The Queensland Resilient Australia Awards celebrate community-focused resilience building and the people making a difference by mitigating the impacts of disasters.
At an Awards Ceremony at Parliament House, QDN was announced as the winner for the Community category for the Disability Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction (DIDRR) Peer Leadership Development Program. This project provided an innovative approach to building disaster leadership and capability with disaster management arrangements in partnership with Local Councils, State Government Disaster Recovery and key community partners.
QDN undertook a pilot program with three (3) Councils – Redlands, Bundaberg and Southern Downs.
Joanna Fowler (a QDN DIDRR Peer Leader), Bec Cason and Michelle Moss from QDN were pleased to attend the Awards at Parliament House where Minister Ann Leahy MP, Minister for Local Government and Water and Minister for Fire, Disaster Recovery and Volunteers presented the award.
This is amazing recognition of the hard work that our DIDRR Champions and Peer Leaders have done to help keep our members and communities safe in a disaster.
Longreach Regional Council was also Highly Commended for their Emergency Services Card project, and you can see the full list of winners at the link below.
Each Queensland Resilient Australia Award winner is now in the running for the National Resilient Australia Awards, which will be announced later this year.
