Off The Grid Forum
Intellectual disability, complexity and the National Disability Insurance Scheme
In November, QDN CEO Paige Armstrong and Project Officer, Karin Swift attended the Off the grid forum, held at the Anti-Discrimination Commission Qld in partnership with Community Living Association, Kyabra Community Association, Jabiru and Micah Projects Inc.
The forum addressed issues of complexity in the lives of people with intellectual disability. These issues may include: mental health, homelessness, substance use and misuse, fractured relationships, chronic health issues, involvement in the criminal justice system and histories of abuse and exploitation.
For people with intellectual disability and complexity, access to the NDIS is important. It is essential that participant readiness activities, planning processes and supports are accessible and address complexity so people can meet their goals of having rich and fulfilling lives.
The issues raised in this workshop reflected QDN’s experience of working with people with intellectual disability and residents of Level 3 Supported Accommodation facilities in our NDIS Participant Readiness activities.
QDN’s work in this area was acknowledged at the forum. Find out more about it.
