QDeNgage opportunity for people with disability in Brisbane –  SDA housing focus group

QDeNgage are seeking people with disability to join a focus group to provide feedback on the design of a new Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) housing development in Loganlea.

SDA is accommodation for people who need specialist housing solutions, including the delivery of supports that cater for people with very high support needs.

The group of four people on the development team describe themselves as a group of individuals with ‘many years of professional experience in the not-for-profit, disability services, supported accommodation, community housing, and property development sectors’. Their vision is the develop ‘high quality and appropriate housing for individuals with disability’.

The development is in the design stage, and plans are to begin construction at the Loganlea location in the near future.

The developers want to hear feedback from people with disability on:

  • Housing needs for people with disability – including current challenges and improvements
  • The current design of this development, and suggestions for improvement
  • Suggestions for the service model of in-home support

The group will discuss the practical needs and challenges in accessible housing, and review the architects plans of the development (along with the support of the architect) and provide feedback on improvements to design.

Who can be involved in this focus group?

QDeNgage are seeking six people with different disability to join this focus group including people with disability who are:

  • Currently living in SDA housing
  • Eligible for but not currently living in SDA housing
  • Not eligible for SDA housing

How will the focus group be run?

There will be two meetings of the focus group.

The meetings will take up to 2 hours, and will be facilitated by QDN and the Loganlea SDA housing developers team. There will be up to 6 people involved in this focus group.

Members will receive $100 payment for each focus group meeting.

There is also up to $50 per meeting available to support transport costs for each group member, members will need to provide receipts.

Date and time

There will be two meetings of this focus group. To apply to be part of this focus group you need to be able to attend both of these meetings.

The meetings will be held in person at the QDN office in Spring Hill.

Meeting 1: Friday 18th December 2020, 10am – 12pm

Meeting 2: TBA January 2021 (mid to late)

(Note: You do not have to be living or eligible for SDA housing to be part of this group)

Not everyone will be selected, as we are seeking a range of people with different disability, with life experiences.
